In every village, town and city, there has been, and in many places still is, a day or weekend when the community comes together. The most popular event was the parade through the area featuring efforts by tradesmen, community groups and individuals.

In South Derbyshire the most popular occasion of this type was, without doubt, the Woodville Parade and Gala. This book traces the early beginnings of such events in Woodville up to 1939 using photographs and original unabridged reports from local newspapers.
